“Your goals are the road maps that guide you and show you what is possible for your life.” – Les Brown
So, why not make them the best and smartest goals possible?
By now you’ve probably set a few goals or at least a few intentions in your life, and they probably worked just fine.
I for one, have always thought that there’s the missing element of taking our strong mind into consideration. It’s all good and well having a goal but what if we come up with excuses or doubts, or can’t effectively face potential obstacles as we pursue our goal?
I’ve now factored all that in with an added Mental Fitness approach to set you up in the best possible way for your wins.
The SMARTER+ Goals Formula
Specific
Be specific with what you’d like to achieve, and describe it in detail.
Measurable
Include measurable metrics so you’ll know exactly when you’ll have reached your goal, i.e. amount of pushups you’ll be able to do in 5 minutes.
Action-focussed
Mention the exact actions you’ll take.
Realistic
“Set your goals high enough to inspire, and low enough to encourage.” – Author unknown.
While you’ll want to stretch yourself and go outside your comfort zone, you’ll also want to keep your goal realistic.
Timed
“The moment you put a deadline to your dream, it becomes a goal.” – Stephen Kellogg
Evaluate
How often will you evaluate your progress, address roadblocks with compassion towards yourself, constructively work on overcoming challenges?
Recognize & Reward
How will you celebrate, acknowledge milestones and wins? It’s very motivating knowing this when you start working on a new goal.
Avoid Self-Sabotage
“Self-Doubt does more to sabotage individual potential than all external limitations put together.” – Brian Tracy
How might you hold yourself back from achieving your goal? What thoughts, beliefs, or excuses might you come up with? How will you overcome this?
Now, take pen and paper, open up a new document on your device, or download your copy here to clearly define your SMARTER+ goal and get started!
Remember this goal-setting quote here by C.S. Lewis:
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.“
